With "off the peg" kits, a range of sizes are selected to cover a majority. We will be offering custom sizes beyond these scales in the later half of 2008 for a nominal premium, but until then these are the sizes we offer.
Helms; Our helm kits are geared toward SCA requirments and allow room for at least minimum padding in these size ranges. With room at the top of the scale for 1/2"+ close cell, 3/4"+ at the middle and 1"+ at the bottom. This means that if your brow measurement falls to 23 1/2" you have a choice of a Medium with room for 1/2"+ or a Large with room for 1"+. The four sizes offered right now are Small (for brows measuring 21 1/2" to 22 1/2"), Medium (for brows measuring 22 1/2" to 23 1/2"), a Large (for brows measuring 23 1/2" to 24 1/2")as well as an Extra Large (for brows measuring 24 1/2" to 25 1/2"). Small variables in front to back and side to side ratios can be affected in the forming of the kit. Gauntlets; With regard to gauntlet size, I have hands that measure 8 inches from the heel of my palm to the tip of my index finger, 3 3/4 inches across the knuckles and 4 3/4 inches across the heel of my palm. Typically, I always wear large gloves. I fight in the larger size with Wells Lamont gloves attached and 3/8 gamboised padding on the back. I fit the larger size fine with a little to spare. The smaller size is 7/8ths the size of the larger and I cannot pass my hand through the cuff with a glove attached and though it fits my bare hand it leaves no room for glove or padding. This size fits my wife fine and also seems to fit the average sized fighter who wears medium gloves. The kit can be formed somewhat narrower/deeper or wider/shallower to compensate a bit. Padding and glove thickness helps as well. |
